For centuries, the skyline of Haarlem has been marked by the Grote of Sint-Bavokerk. The tower is no less than 78 metres high and rises above the city as the central pillar.
This medieval church lies at the heart of the old centre, among one of the most beautiful squares one can find in the Netherlands: Haarlem’s Grote Market (‘Great Market Square’). The church is still in use today, so everyone is invited to join a service.
Many famous people have played the church organ here, such as Mendelssohn, Händel and even Mozart, when he was only ten years old in 1766. Anyone who enters the impressive church, will surely marvel at the beautiful wooden dome, the stained-glass windows, the centuries-old painted choir stalls and the richly decorated organ.
These days, the church is a perfect rental location for concerts, conferences, exhibitions or fairs for up to as many as 1,400 people. Smaller groups will also find their place here, in the fabulous traditional style rooms. Each has its own entrance, which makes them ideal for a small meeting or private gathering for up to 20 people. The building’s unique character and its central location allow for endless possibilities, which is why a customized approach to each event is only natural here.
